Science Using Long-Wavelength Neutrons Workshop
On Nov. 20-21, 2000 a meeting will be held at Argonne on "Science Using
Long-Wavelength Neutrons". This is a follow-up to the May SNS User Meeting
and the final formal opportunity for community input into the proposal to the
National Science Foundation (NSF) for a long-wavelength target station (LWTS) at
SNS. On the first day, presentations will be made on the status of the
scientific and technical portions of the proposal. These will be followed by
presentations of the various scientific working groups.
On the afternoon of Nov. 20, we will have a Festschrift for David Price and Jack
Carpenter to honor their many contributions to spallation neutron sources. We
have put together a tentative agenda in which speakers will touch on a number of
scientific areas: dynamics of glasses, powder diffraction, computer modeling,
etc. This will be followed by a banquet at the Argonne Guest House where you
will have the opportunity to celebrate your association with Jack and David.
The cost of the banquet is $30. See the registration form for payment
instructions.
The next day will include talks on the structure of the proposal, conventional
facilities, budget details and schedule. Presentations will also be made on the
status of the 3 instruments that will be discussed in detail in the proposal and
the current "straw-man" list of instruments for the LWTS. Ideas for
activities during years 2 and 3 of the NSF proposal will be solicited and
discussed. There will be considerable time during the meeting for discussions
and suggested changes to the draft NSF proposal. The meeting will end by
early-afternoon on the 21st.
Lodging has been reserved at the Argonne Guest House for the nights of Nov. 19
and 20 at a rate of $55.65/night, tax included. The block of rooms will be held
in reserve until November 3, 2000. Please contact Maria Heinig, (630) 252-6485
or email mheinig@anl.gov to reserve a room.
You can register online or through printing the registration form, filling it in
and mailing it.
